After thirty years in the health care and insurance industry
I’ve seen a lot of evolution...and
revolution: rise and fall of HMOs, surge of PPOs, trail-blazing of CDHPs
and HSAs, and host of medical management innovations. On the legislative front,
I saw Ted Kennedy’s relentless push for health reform, standardization of
Medicare Supplement, Hillary Clinton’s Health Security Act thwarted by Harry
& Louise, and enough state benefit mandates to cover every part of the human
body.
Fast-forward 2010 and history is made. The passage of two
bills by Congress and signed into law by the President at the end of March.
Health care reform is set to transform the health care and insurance industries.
With 32 million uninsured individuals set to gain access to health coverage, a
ten-year implementation timeline, and $940 billion in new expenditures, this is
a disruptive event.
However, the new health
care reform law is just the first step. Now, HHS writes the rules and
regulations to interpret and guide implementation. And as everyone knows, the
devil’s in the details!
Following are a series of hot-links that act as a resource
center to help navigate the “ins & outs” of health reform—analysis,
implementation, timing, and implications for various industry and product
segments.
